Sport
'Sport For All' used to be the slogan often heard at the municipal sports centre and the concept still applies. You don’t have to be the fittest or most competitive individual to undertake and enjoy some form of sport, neither do you have to invest a lot of money in equipment or training.
It is in the best interest of the UK government and the National Health Service to get people moving, exercising and improving their health. The local sports centre is the ideal first port of call if you want to find out about sports and activities which are readily available. Most sports centres have a public swimming pool and offer low cost swimming sessions at off peak times. Families receiving government benefits may be entitled to additional discounts to allow them access to local sports facilities.
If you wish to formalise your sporting activities and participate regularly it is a good idea to join a team or class, or form your own team and book indoor or outdoors space at the sports centre. Courts will be available for squash, badminton, basketball, five-a-side football and more while outside space for football and tennis is also often available.
You don’t have to join a team or club to practice sports. Running is a massively popular sport that need involve no one except yourself and can be undertaken by virtually all physically able people with some determination. If you are fortunate enough to live by the coast, water sports such as kite-surfing, wind-surfing and kayaking are both exhilarating and great exercise.
