Orion troop has just received a contribution to its Jamboree Fund from
Billericay Round Table in recognition for its help at last year’s Firework Display.
We had hoped that we might receive a couple of hundred pounds and were very pleased to see the amount sent by the Round Table to be £600. The troop as a whole put in over 50 scout-hours of work in bonfire-building and selling light-sticks at the main gate. The troop was helped by former members Nathan and Jonathan and Akela of Jeebi Cub Pack, Margaret Wares.
The letter from the Treasurer of the Round Table that accompanied the cheque indicated that the event was one of the most successful ever staged and thanked the troop for all its help. Over £35,000 was raised for good causes.
The money given to the troop will be used to reduce the cost to parents of sending their scout children to the
Essex International Jamboree to be held in Kirby-le-Soken in the coming summer.
As well as helping the Round Table raise £35,000, the troop has also raised £370 for the
Macmillan Cancer Support charity over the Christmas period with its bag-packing efforts. To quote the famous Tom Lehrer song – we’re “doing well, by doing good”
